Whoopie Pie
In 2011, Whoopie Pies became Maine's official state dessert.
Whoopie pies can be found according to Representative Paul Davis who pushed the bill for state dessert: bakeries, corner stores, mom-and-pop shops, supermarkets, restaurants, lunch stands, hotels, motels, B&Bs, taverns, bars, dance halls, wherever. No Mainer needs to look to hard to find a pie.
The First documented Whoopie Pie made in Maine was in Lewiston at LeBadies Bakery, 1925. It wasn't until the 1930s that a local radio show which broadcasted on 21 stations promoted the Whoopie Pie made with Marshmallow recipes: chocolate, mollasses, peanut butter, and pumpkin.
