Margaret Chase Smith Museum

FMI:  207-474-7133

Every young woman in the area should visit this museum.  Margaret was a first for our community.  Growing up on North Ave, attending school in Skowhegan, born there as well.  From her home/museum she could see all of these places - her life out the window.  Eisenhower came to Skowhegan, spoke at the fair grounds, dined at her home having surf & turf, and then he took a nap at her home deeming one of the bedrooms the "Eisenhower bedroom".  Her staff has left the houe exactly as it was.

I personally have been and enjoyed it very much!

Library & Museum Hours:
Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ghost Sightings @

Strand Cinema - This movie house was built in 1929, and became Strand Cinema in 2003. Some say it is home to a ghost who is very angry. The phenomena surrounding the place are said to have begun in 1978 when an apartment was added to the building.

West Side Lake George -

Unexplained activity abounds near the camp's cabins. When a group of children came across one old cabin in the woods, each one looked through the windows and saw something different. In one instant there appeared to be a game room inside, with folded chairs around the room

I have driven by this Meeting House a hundred times, but it was not until I started this website that I ever had a desire to go inside, but before the day is out, I will pay it a visit.

I'm sure it will truely be an experience that will not be forgotten.  The doors are generally unlocked, but I would imagine out of respect, proper time of entry would be sun up to sun down.

Solon To Bingham Rail Trail

Located about 60 miles north of Augusta, the Solon to Bingham stretch of the 14 mile Kennebec Valley Trail is one of the most scenic mountain bike rides in Western Maine. The flat, crushed stone surface provides an ideal opportunity for a family bike ride and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is open for year-round use, however it is even more special during the fall foliage season.

From Solon, the trail heads north, following along the edge of the Kennebec River and ends at the junction with Rt. 201. Further upstream, "The Forks" area is a renowned center for world-class rafting but this stretch of the rail trail remains still and peaceful.
