Maine Open Lighthouse Day - September 10, 2016

 

This event typically brings 15,000 - 18,000 people to visit over 20 different lighthouses along Maine's beautiful coast line.  The event is sponsored by the United States Coast Guard, Maine Office of Tourism & the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Arrowsic - Kennebec River - Doubling Point Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the Public - Light Tower only

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The lighthouse is owned and managed by the Friends of Doubling Point Lighthouse.  The remainder of the buildings on site are privately owned and not open to the public, please respect the owner's rights to privacy.

Arrowsic - Kennebec River - Range Front Light

 

Buildings which are open to the Public -   The front range light the rear light can be viewed at a distance

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The two historic light towers ( front and rear range ) are owned and managed by the Range Light Keepers ) 

Bristol - Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the Public -  Light tower ( contains a Fresnel lens ) and keeper's house ( museum inside, which is operated by the Town of Bristol )

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The light tower is cared for by the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Cape Elizabeth - Portland Head Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the Public - Light Tower & Keeper's House  ( museum inside & adjacent gift shop )

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The lighthouse is owned and managed by the Town of Cape Elizabeth.  For more information please contact, www.portlandheadlight.com

Castine - Dyce Head Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the Public - Light Tower only

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The lighthouse is owned and managed by the Town of Castine.  The keeper's house is a private residence, please respect their privacy.

Lubec - West Quoddy Head Lighthouse
 

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light Tower only & Keeper's House ( museum inside ).

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation and contains a beautiful third order Fresnel lens.  The light station's historic buildings are owned by the Maine Department of Parks and Lands.  The Museum inside the keeper's house is operated by the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Association.

 

 

Mount Desert Island - Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

Owl's Head - Owl's Head Lighthouse

 

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light tower and keeper's house ( museum & gift shop inside )

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation, and contains a beautiful fourth order Fresnel lens.  The light stations's historic buildings are cared foor by the American Lighthouse Foundation and serves as the headquarters for the nonprofit organization.

Port Clyde - Marshall Point Lighthouse

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.  The light station's historic buildings are owned and managed by the St. George Historical Society.

 

Portland - Spring Point Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light Tower

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation, and is owned and managed by the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust. 

 

 

Rockland - Breakwater Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light Tower & keeper's house

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation and contains a beautiful fourth order Fresnel lens.  The light station's historic buildings are owned by the City of Rockland and cared for by the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

 

 

South Portland - Spring Point Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light Tower

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation, and is owned and managed by the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust. 

 

 

Stockton Springs - Fort Point Lighthouse

 

Buildings which are open to the public - Light Tower ( contains a fresnel lens )& Bell Tower exhibits inside.

 

The lighthouse is an active Coast Guard aid to navigation and contains a beautiful fourth order Fresnel lens.  The light station's historic buildings are owned by the State of Maine and managed by Fort Point State Historic Site.  The keeper's house is the residence of the Park Ranger and his family.  ( please respect their privacy )
